asked on
wireless network (very long but appriciated)
OK it goes like this:
We have 4 computers 3 with wireless nics and 1 with a wired nic all leading to a router which has 4 wired plugs and wireless enabled and an extra plug which reads wan and the internet modem plugs into it All works fine internet works on all computers and all wireless cards the same brand as the router (tp-link) except for 1 which is netgear but no problem there they all work...
however not wat i want them to do i need a step by step guide sorta thing to allow the computers to have internet but also appear in workgroup (all computers in the same workgroup) and be able to share files without people on the internet being able to access them.. so in other words id like the network and the internet seperate ( like with hard drive partitions, except on a network) i have sniffers for our network that dont work because of this situation
any help would be greatly appriciated

what exaclty do you mean...if you set up a workgroup with all machines in it...you can still access the internet
ASKER
yea well we play alot of games in our house and when we go lan it brings up the internet as lan because we're connected through the internet not lan is there away to make us conected through lan but still work on internet
you are on a LAN...if you have machines connected to each other you are on a LAN - Local Area Network
ASKER
for example we have zone alarm secruity suit and it will not let us into the workgroup because the firewall protects it but if we were in trusted zone it'll be fine however if we go in trusted zone then hackers can get in via internet becaause there is one NIC is there a way to have lan in trusted zone and internet in internet zone
ASKER
should i call zone alarm for help?
ASKER
ok the alternative is wat is the best firewall that will not interfear with lan
