You can use gmail - they take very large file attachments.  Get an account, get your friend an account, and voila - easy large file transfer.  http://mail.google.com/mail/

Alternatively, you can pay to upload it to an FTP site, or a web site, and then your friend can retrieve it.  If you own/control your own site, you can post it there and send them a link to retrieve it.

Or you could run your own file service on your computer and open ports 20, 21 to the Itnernet and your friend could retrieve it from your computer via FTP.
Use a splitter and split the files, send it in multiple emails. The other side user can reassemble it and use it.

The one above is one such tool (free)

try yousendit.com
if it is windows xp use messenger to upload the file to your friends pc.  If not you and your friend  sign up for a messenger account and use it.  Windows messenger would be simplest if you and your friend use it already.  Your friends email service may not allow large emails once you have a email account that will.  Also sometimes email filters pickup split files as spam.  I have a buddy that uses excite and I can't email him large files split up. It gets returned detected as spam.
with most messenger services you can transfer any size file
winrar is good for splitting the file into as many files as you want and sendind as executables that will automatically 'know each other' on the other side without the need for any software on the receiving end.

Please explain "Or you could run your own file service on your computer and open ports 20, 21 to the Internet and your friend could retrieve it from your computer via FTP" as pseudocyber said. How do I run my own file service on my computer and open the ports?
Thank you.
You would get an FTP Server program (there everywhere - just go to http://www.download.com).  Then, you would run the FTP Server program and then your friends could FTP to your public IP, and if you've forwarded the ports to your computer, they could use FTP (which is File Transfer Protocol) to retrieve the files regardless of their size.

Can someone please tell me what is meant by PDT with reference to time?
Thank you.
?? I don't understand, the question is different and the answer is different? At least a point split would've been appropriate wrt the original question ????

By the way PDT is Pacific Daylight Time.

Cheers,
Rajesh
You win some you lose some, Rajesh.  They should have accepted the question - FTP the file, instead of the mechanics of it.
Yeah, but it doesn't look like 'worth' losing this one ? Well, now we know what to do with future.

Cheers,
Rajesh
I don't think a 50 pointer is capable of bing split.  There's a limit below which they won't split.  I'm not sure.
No, I don't want a split now. I guess, what I was trying to tell was people asking question don't have the same 'enthu' after it gets answered. If he had selected your first post of Gmail which is a very valid one, that could be understood. But here, he DON"T CARE! and the time we spend is not worth.

Cheers,
Rajesh
Yeah.  :|
I remember people talking about creating a black list using EE quick post for askers like this. Now I know why :-)

Rajesh
