DVD Drive not showing up under My Computer
I installed a BENQ DW1655 DVD burner in my system. It worked but the next time I rebooted it was recognized as as an IDE secondary master in the BIOS screen but wouldn't show up under My Computer.

Here's the patch from there:
Replace the BENQ drive with a Sony DVD. The sony's are great drives, and the BENQ are not reliable.
I figured out the problem. I had a primary and secondary HDD on one ribbon and I had the DVD and a third HDD on the second ribbon. When I removed the third HDD the system recognized the DVD drive. It's a good thing I didn't try replacing the DVD with a Sony:)

You can have 4 IDE drives on 2 cables as many do without problem....would have been interesting to see if it was a jumper or other thing
