Listener

I have installed Oracle Db 10g R2 on Windows 2000 Advanced Server. After starting Windows, i typed "listener status" The results are

The problem is that HOST parameter( port 1521) always is 127.0.0.1 while i specified  machine name in listener.ora.Therefore, when client connect to db server, it launched "No listener" error.

I tried to start listener by command .It's ok.Help me to fix the error, please. Thanks a lot.

127.0.0.1 is loopback address for the machine you are running this listener on. It should be ok. Did you say you added host name in your listener.ora and still you see 127.0.0.1 when you do status ?

do you have multiple listener.ora on your pc ? can you post the listener.ora you got.
techjiCommented:
Also can you post the result of this command run on your client pc ?

cmd> tnsping nhansu

The result of this command shows the connect string to the database server. Is it showing the correct server name (srv-nhansu) and port (1521) ? if not then your tnsnames.ora on the client is not right.

When i change HOST parameter to IP address. The listener failed to start
techjiCommented:
Good you got your problem resolved. Was the listener restarted after you changing the hostname ?
Once you get oracle installed on a windows box, it is always advised to reboot.

>>When i change HOST parameter to IP address
you mean 127.0.0.1 ? it should start. Can you post what error it showed ?
