Auto Accept Agent is unresponsive, won't start or let me uninstall (EventIDs:4097, 11722, 7009)

Im running SBS 2003 Standard and Auto Accept Agent has been running for a year without any problems. All of a sudden users reports that their Invitations aren't accepted and that they haven't been so in at least 3 weeks...

In the application eventlog I got this for each invitation to the resource:

-----------
Event Type:      Error
Event Source:      Auto Accept Agent
Event Category:      None
Event ID:      4097
Date:            18-09-2006
Time:            11:44:56
User:            N/A
Computer:      SERVER01
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 4097 ) in Source ( Auto Accept Agent ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Exception occurred while processing item "file://./backofficestorage/DOMAIN/MBX/USER/Inbox/SUBJECT". This item will not be processed.

The exception information is:
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80070426): The service has not been started.

I found some solutions on similar problems:
1) http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;920861

2) This behavior manifests when Resource Mailboxes are no longer being managed by Auto Accept Agent on Exchange Server 2003. Unbind each Resource Mailbox using RegisterMailbox.vbs with the /U switch then reregister each Resource Mailbox using the same command without the /U switch.

but nothing has helped!?!?

I tried to uninstall the service and got this:
-------------------------
Event Type:      Error
Event Source:      MsiInstaller
Event Category:      None
Event ID:      11722
Date:            11-10-2006

Now I get a the following popup and event ID when trying to restart the service:

What happens if you try to install it again over the top?
Has the server been rebooted recently?

Hi Simon,

When I try to install the AAA it just finishes the installation in about 3 seconds and says the installation has been completed successfully. I have rebooted the server several times in the process.

Has Powershell sent you back into the Stone Age?

If managing Active Directory using Windows Powershell® is making you feel like you stepped back in time, you are not alone.  For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why.

I have now been able to uninstall the AAA by removing alot of registry settings. After reinstalling the AAA I can start the service (uses lokal system account) but now, when trying to register a resource I get this

----------------
C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\Agents\AutoAccept>cscript RegisterMailbox.vbs /M:resource@domain.com
Microsoft (R) Windows Script Host Version 5.6
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation 1996-2001. All rights reserved.

Registering resource@domain.com with Auto Accept Agent.
Error 80070426: The service has not been started.

Error: Unable to get event binding path for resource@domain.com
------------------

The service is running and so is the COM object!

Ideas anyone????

Thanks

Ok, the last one was fairly easy, my Administrative acount didnt have rights to do this. Added it to the COM service and voila!

Unregistret my mailboxes and reregistrated them.

Now everything works.
