Safe Mode - Windows XP - F8

I need to restore my system to a previous date - currently system is "stuck" so need to access via safe mode

starting with F8 brings up "select First Boot Device" pop up - How do i navigate to select to safe mode working

try tapping the F4 key during boot instead

i see i made a typo, should read F5.
did the F4 work ? ?
