Problems with required field validator

Hi:
I have a required field validator to validate a textbox on a web form. When the page loads the textbox is defaulted to todays date. If i delete the date the required field validator fires correctly and pops up a message saying "Please enter a date". If I manually enter a date in the correct format the required field validators disappears which is right. Now I also have a date picker which inputs the selected date into the textbox. However if i delete the date in the textbox and select the date from the date picker the required field validator message stays there when it should actually disappear since I have chosen a date from the date picker.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Aditya

Ah, the question is then:

How does the "date picker" update the textbox?

From the description, it sounds like it is not using a pure assignment (i.e., txtbox.value = datePicker() ).
I would check how the datePicker is attempting to update the texbox, and have it be a pure assigment.
Be careful though.  If the user cancels out of the datePicker routine/mechanism, you want to leave the
"Please enter a date" message alone
