Nothing is being displayed on the desktop of an XP PRO SP2 Machine

I have a user who is set up with a roaming profile.  Despite what machine he logs into, everything that is/was on his desktop is missing.  The bizarre thing is that I checked the documents directory (using My Computer) and there is data in the desktop directory.  However, when it comes to the files being displayed on the desktop, that's another story.  Anyone?

Try this..  Right-click the desktop, go to "Arrange Icons By" and check "Show desktop icons"

If that doesn't work, in "Arrange Icons By", try checking the option to "Auto Arrange" if it isn't already checked.
