session handling

hi,
i want to use sessions in my web, so i understand there r 2 ways to handle their id: cookies and url.
as far as i know the cookies way is safer, so why in forums i see that they use the url to get the session id?

Because that way the sessions will still work, even if users have cookies disabled in their browser...

is there a way to change the method to url after i check if the user have cookies disabled?

Well, you can 'manually' add the session id to the URL via GET and use it to continue the session in the next page.

umm i ment is it possible to do a check whether the user has cookies enabled\disabled and to use the appropriate method according to it?
