Setup is unable to access the Site Replication Service database when upgrading Exchange 2k to 2k3

Hi,
I am trying to upgrade from E2k to E2k3, i'm getting an error as soon as i
select upgrade and next. "The component Microsoft Exchange Messaging and
Collaboration Services: cannot be assigned the action "Upgrade" because: -
Setup is unable to access the Site Replication Service database,. Please
verify that the SRS service is started and you have Administrative rights to
the Exchange 5.5 Organization, Site, and configuration containers for this
server."

SRS is running fine, and I cant delete it from Tools in System Manager as I get another error.

HELP! My deadline is ticking away!
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew.

Do you have any Exchange 5.5 servers?
If not, then you don't need SRS and can remove it.

No, it is just a 2000 excahnge which i need to upgrade to 2003. When I try and remove it from System Manager I get the error "The system cannot find the file specified." "facility:Win32, ID no: c0070002, Exchange System Manager" so I don't know how to remove it.

Any ideas?

Andrew.
These are the official instructions on removing the SRS.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/Guides/Ex2k3DepGuide/d91c2065-99af-4056-9fa6-00dd8ac05374.mspx?mfr=true

Is that what you are following?

You don't need the Active Directory Connector either, if you have any of those lurking around.

Simon.
Yes, I have followed this, though as I said I can't delete the SRS from System Manager.
Do you think it is worth trying to remove exchange using add/remove programs from control panel? I can not afford to lose anyones emails or diaries as there are about 200 staff here and its just not an option!

It seems there are three parts to the component selection in add/remove exchange:
Exchange 2000
Messaging and collaboration services
System Management Tools

What do you think, is this likely to make the 2k3 install wizard get past the error its giving me about SRS???

Any more ideas?

I'm not sure if it is relevant but when I do a dcdiag /fix command I get a failure under Netlogons as per below? Do you think it could be linked?

Ok thanks, I'll giev the manual removal a try for now.
No, the manual removal doesnt work because the ADC snap-in I have is now the 2003 (6.5) version and it wont let me delete the CA. I think its well and truly had it.
Still havnt sorted this darned thing out but have been on site now for nearly 40 hrs and am going to go and have a sleep in someones office!!! may get some focus after a bit of shut eye to address my many problems before they all come back in to work on monday am and murder me!

Andrew.
