Windows Vista RC1 update problem
Windows Vista alerts me that I need a security update, but when I attempt to do so, I get an error message "Windows could not search for new updates" with error code 8024A000.

OK... As I suspect you might have guessed, I just joined this group this week, so I'm not fully familiar with procedure... I'll have to read up on how exactly this point system works... whether the question solved my problem or not, I wanted to express my appreciation for the time and effort you put in to point me to a solution... I thought that's what the ratings represented...
Regrettably, though I found the two sites you referred me to interesting, they dealt with XP issues, not Vista. So I am still searching... Nothing turns up on global searches so I guess I have the wonderful distinction of being the first - I hope not only - person to confront this...
Again, thanks for your help...

Peter,
Welcome aboard.
I am a relative newcomer also.

I guess I was looking up an XP problem here at work when I gave you the other aumha link.
I've been running Vista for a couple of months and (knock wood) haven't had any glitches yet. Just trying to learn the basics so I can answer some questions.
Check out these 2 new sites and post back.
