Hi,
I would like transfer files of a webapp from a Windows system (development platform) to a Linux machine (production) and restart the Webapp on the Linux machine.
Is this possible ?

yes. best would be to build a war from your dev environment and deploy that to prod

Why is it better to have a War file instead of all the files like I usually do ?

How do I transfer from my Windows platform to the linux platform over the Internet using Ant ?

war files are generally easier to deploy, plus u only have a single file to transfer.
how u transfer depends on what options are available typically scp or ftp
