vb 2005  dialing modem and sending txt file

i need to establish a connection with a off sit modem and transmit a txt file. I need someone to point me in the right direction in doing this using vb 2005 . Serial connections,modems are a mystery to me.

create a VPN connection between the two then use the copy file function provided in the answer
all the details on creating the connection are there
