Previously installed Winzip "mini-setup" fails for non-admins.
I have a room full of XP systems with a mix of winzip 9 and 10. When non-admins (basically everyone but me) log in winzip tries to do it mini-setup to establish it's user preferences. It comes back with a prompt:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a cd-rom or other removeable disk that is not available. Insert the 'winzip' disk and click OK."
In the prompt window the "Use Source" dropdown only has this in it:
"[ProductName]LABEL"
And the "Browse" button is greyed out.
So I applied this reg entry
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/msi/setup/allowlockdownbrowse.asp
Now I can browse but it's looking for winzip9.0.msi which doesn't exist anywhere on the system. Even weirder, winzip wasn't installed from an msi. I'm leaning toward a windows installer problem but I don't see anything else like this on the web. Any ideas?

Grrrrr. I stand corrected, looks like our xp image guys used an msi on a dvd. Source is listed as d:\software\winzip\winzip9 .0.msi.
There's about 200 people flowing in and out of this room. And unfortunately making them admin on these boxes is out of the question for security reasons.
Can I just drop the msi in \windows, and modify the source value?

InstallSource \\??\?\Packages\WinZip\Win
Check the source to see what ti says.
Also, what if you elevate them to a admin, to allow it to configure, and then remove the rights, does it finish?
Might also be corrupted installer info..
