Print Jobs hanging on a Xerox workcentre pro 3545

I have a Xerox workcentre pro 3545 printer/copier.  The printer has a built in print server which is connected to our corporate network and has about 5 PC's that need to print to it regularly.  When print jobs are sent to it, one or two will go through but most will hang and error out.  We have tried many things to remedy this, including replacing the NIC in the printer, plugging the printer to a different network connection, plugging the network connection to a different network switch, re-installing the drivers on the PC's and trying both PCL and PS drivers.  All have proven unsuccessful  The only way to get it to print correctly was to connect with either a cross-connect cable directly from a PC to the printer, or to connect the PC and the printer together with a small switch.  I'm figuring that this may be caused by a network issue.  Both the PC's and the printer are connected to 3com superstack 4250T switches.  The switches are all using factory default settings.   I was wondering if there was a possible switch setting that would cause a conflict with the print server, or if their may be other issues that my cause print jobs to hang.

Had the same problem at a customer site.  Ended up using an aftermarket print server attached to the parallel port (may have been usb, don't remember for sure).  The problem was in the interface between the onboard print server and the motherboard.  Switching to the external unit took care of the problem.
I gave solid advice on this one.
