Fireworks opening a Freehand file Problems

Hi
I have A freehand document that  I attempted to open with Fireworks. It opened the file but there an error message kept being thrown up saying insufficient memory and "internal error".  The file I'm trying to open is only 12mb  . It is a vector freehand file.   I have 512 mb of RAM memory and have 2 Gig of virtual memory. I closed down all other application and tried again - only to get the same errors.  The file was open with all the layers but I could not do anything with it because of this error message.

I have a 486 pentium 3 processor operating under Windows Xp and Free hard drive space - 60Gig.

Does anyone know what is happening? and how to overcome this problem.

Thanks

John

It's a wonder it opened at all as freehand's native format .fh8  is not compatible with fireworks .png
as it did open and freehand is vector based and fireworks essentially bitmap based.. the memory problems are
likely caused by fireworks try to rasterize everything.
You need to open it in freehand then you can drag and drop assets into fireworks
or export from freehand as a png
