Users cannot connect to VPN or access websites after installing Microsoft's User Profile Hive Cleaner

What would cause an issue where you can't load websites or access a VPN after installing the Microsoft User Profile Hive Cleaner? After install, the system rebooted and VPN access errors out. When you try to access websites and in some instances even the local router you get the error: "page cannot be displayed". All proxy settings are disabled. You can access the internet and websites from other computers connected to the same router. You can ping web sites but can't load the page. You have IP Address assignments and DNS connections under IPCONFIG /All but effectively cannot access the site. The system has CSA security Agent loaded on it.

I suggest to flush your TCP/IP stack (if you use XP)

do in command prompt

netsh int ip reset c:\log.txt

then reboot and do
ipconfig /flushdns

try to connect

Let me know the output of the log.txt.

Regards
Rikke

We found the issue and resolved it. Sorry to take so long to update. It turned out that the enterprise firewall client on the laptops saw the HIVE Cleanup as a potentially malicious program and locked down the systems. We developed an automated script to remove the firewall and get the users back on the VPN.
