Hi

I have been followint the directions to install mnogosearch on my server which uses plesk.

The instructions:
http://search.mnogo.ru/doc/msearch-installing.html

The instructions say to type:
'mysqladmin create mnogosearch'

at the command line but i get and error:
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'

I want to get mnogosearch installed because it is the only free search engine that i have been able to locate that has support for shift_jis encoding.

Thanks for your help.

Michael

You need to authenticate to the mySQL, mke sure you can connect to mySQL on Plesk, by clicking on the Server->Databases->MySQL->Webadmin

check if it loads, if you can connect using the root or sa password in mySQL try to create a database in your domain and then try to install your application using that particular database.

You may be skipping some steps on the process.

I managed to get it working,

But the data to the database was all screwed up.

When looking at the data in phpmyadmin it is all jumbled characters.  I think this is because shift_jis is the page encoding and the database encoding is utf8.

I think an easier option might be to change the whole site to UTF8.

thanks for your help.

You can try to changed to UTF8 but you may have some problems with the generation of some characters, even that you may have the database in UTF8 you may need to set the default language to latin1. I had experienced some wierd charsets error codes using UTF8.

Good luck!
