Outlook - smtp 554

Hi Folks,

I have created an email address for a client of mine but they are complaining that they cant reply on this email address. They can receive emails fine.

They have set up the address in a new account in their outlook. When they try to reply to emails in that account they get this error:

'An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'mail.editeddomain.org.uk', Server: 'mail.editeddomain.org.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 Please check your SMTP server is set to smtp.orange.co.uk. Further help is available at http://help.orange.co.uk/sessionBegin.do?solutionId=kb4473', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC6F'

orange is the isp, what could be causing this? have they just set up the account wrong in outlook?

Thanks

Greetings, Steggs !

Error message said that your SMTP server is wrong.  mail.editeddomain.org.uk should be set to smtp.orange.co.uk

Make sure authentication is not selected. See this trouble for your Orange account
http://help.orange.co.uk/sessionBegin.do?solutionId=kb4473'

Best wishes!

Hi war1,

I set up the same account in my outlook express at home and I can receive and send emails fine.

Why cant my client send emails with the same account in his outlook express? could it be a problem with outlook? Is there something that has to be enabled in outlook to be able to send emails from multiple accounts?

Regards

Steggs,

If you can send via Outlook Express, you should be able to send via Outlook. Something is interfering with Outlook in your client's computer.  Try setting up the same account in Outlook Express in your client's computer.

1. Register an important send/receive library file.  Go to Start > Run and type regsvr32 inetcomm.dll

2. Check if antivirus email check is slowing sending and receiving.  Disable it. Check if other programs running in the background is interfering. Disable one at a time the Firewall, antispyware, antispam, and all Norton programs.

3. In the account settings, Advanced settings, change the server timeout time from 1 min to 5 min

4. Check if outgoing mail server authentication is required. Select that option in account settings and use same settings as incoming server

5. Your ISP may be blocking port 25. Try using alternate port 587.

If no joy, you need to use your ISP SMTP server to send out emails.

6.  Check with email provider Tech Support to determine if server is having trouble.

7. See this troubleshooter for not sending
