Hello,

anyone know the what the classname of internet explorer window 7 is?

AND / OR

is there a way to get the class name of a running windows app?

Spy (or Spy++) could get you the class name any running window.

In Spy if you get the Windows (Windows option under Spy), it lists all the running windows. Double clicking on any window gets you everything about that window.

Alternatively you could locate the window by using "Find Window" under "Search"

This gets you the window handle based on the caption (you can pass NULL to lpClassName )

HWND FindWindow(LPCTSTR lpClassName, LPCTSTR lpWindowName);

Then this could be used to get the class name

int GetClassName( HWND hWnd, LPTSTR lpClassName, int nMaxCount);

thanks.  I found my answer using spy to id the handle and a debug session to find the matching handle via the findwindow calls i was already making.

FYI: IE7 has added a new handle for dealing with attached toolbars.
