Exchange Information Store Crashes

hey,

i have trouble with my exchange server 2000. I reinstalled exchange 2000, restarted server, installed sp3, restarted server. I start Exchange information store service and it crashes shortly after. I probably had to dismount the store before reinstalling..........

Anyway, I tried to do recovery /r E00 it finishes in couple seconds but the /mh shows that database is still "Dirty Shutdown". So I ran /p, detele all log files, and later /d. I did that on both priv1 and pub1. /mh shows "Clean Shutdown". But when i try to mount it again it crashes after a few seconds, the state goes back to "Dirty Shutdown".
Basically, I follow this ms article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313184

What could I try more? I have the copy of mdbdata folder after exchange was reinstalled. I cannot run backup because there is no backup :(

please help.

Are you running out of space on that drive?

What event id's are getting thrown when it crashes?  IS never crashes quietly :)

When you say, "if i delete all files from mdbdata folder and start information store, it runs fine and doesnt crash", how long does it run without crashing?

I think it was running for more than 20 min, then I stopped it. There is over 8GB free on that drive.

When the service crash I get an entry in SYSTEM that the service crashed unexpectedly. Later APPLICATIONS event log starts logging event below. All exchange services run fine just information store crashes.

Event Type:      Error
Event Source:      MSExchangeSA

If I move all the files from mdbdata folder, start information store and try to mount the database it asks if i want to create a new database. So i said ok and it create new edb files. So far it is running normal without any crashes. So i think that is something wrong with my database. how do i make it so that my database dont crash?

That error is useless, that happens AFTER the crash.

8GB is not a log of free space, but it should be enough for the databases to run.  Just to confirm, you have that much space once it crashes, not once you move everything, right?

If you are convinced it is a faulty store, here are the tools you will need to get it back to a good state -> http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange-ISINTEG-ESEUTIL.html

the 8 gb is with database files on the drive. so once it crashes the drive has 8 gb free.

in theory if i run /r E00 and then /p , /d the database should be in normal state and mount fine?

i already did that 3-4 times, every time - crash.

also once it crashes the database goes back to "Dirty Shutdown" and if i try to mount it i get that the database files are inconsistant.

The database files in this store are inconsistent.

I did these tests on the database:

/g - integrity check : successful
/k - no bad checksums
/mh state is clean shutdown

Can somebody tell me if i can delete log files and mount the database? Or should I do something before that?

Have you tried not starting the Public store, but only running the mailbox store?

What log files are you talking about deleting?  Generally, that is never a good idea

the ones with E00...

I have set that databases are not mounted on startup. I managed to bring back the public store...

Database was mounting before but the problem was that information store crashed. Before I tried to run /r and then /p. However, this time i just did /r and then /d on the public store. Mounted and dismounted it immediatly after before the service crashed. Ran isinteg -s (servername) -fix -test alltests on public store and restarted the information store.

So... so far so good... information store doesnt crash and the public store is mounted for over 30 min.

I will try to dismount the public store and do the same on the mailbox store. I am really hoping this will work.

it got a little more stable. I can mount both databases and running fine but just crashes after a while. sometimes it stays longer sometimes shorter. And again no event id are logged on crash with diagnostics enabled. all i get is unexpected crash. go figure.

should i reinstall exchange again? will that do anything?

ok i think i solved it... so far so good.

like i said the m drive was not under my computer. i removed the drive: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305145
and looks like its working fine. i know its best practice to turn it off in first place but i didnt have problem with it before reinstall.
the databases mounted and everything looks good so far. i do hope so.

i go nuts :)

if anybody having something similar check out: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/280432

looks like my m drive is still enabled but i had one machinekey that didnt have proper permissions. after resetting them information store seems to run much smoother. i am disabling m drive anyways.
