I'm trying to run an old DOS program and am getting:
  FCB unavailable

I believe I used to set up FCBs in Autoexec.bat

How do I do it in XP Pro?

Are you trying to run this program in a command prompt under Windows, or in real-mode DOS?  Please provide operating system version.

If running under Windows 9x, or real-mode DOS, edit your CONFIG.SYS file and add the line:
FCBS=32 (if it already exists, make the number larger)

If running in a command prompt under Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 / Vista, edit the C:\Windows\System32\Config.nt file and add the line
FCBS=32 (if it already exists, make the number larger)

Config.nt was at C:\WinNT\System32\ on my system.  I had no FCBS line so I added yours.  Works great.  Thanks a lot.
