Previous IT locked down these computers with a password in the Bios.
How do I reset the Bios so that I can reinstall XP and make these machines usable?
Dell Optiplex gx520
Thanks

You need to use the password jumper on the motherboard heres a link to the users guide for the gx520 just click on forgotten password to bring up the instruction on how to use the jumoer to clear the password http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx520/en/ug/advfeat0.htm#wp1117484

If your not sure about using password jumpers there is another way.

Simply open up the box...

Find the little lithium battery (bout the size of a quarter.. silver and shiny)

Pop this out... make sure the machine is unplugged and let it sit for around 15 minutes.

Put the battery back in and boot up the machine.

this will clear the Bios/Cmos so that there is no password.

Thanks for the alternate method.  The jumpers worked great.  Thanks again.
