Windows backup

Hi,

OS microsoft windows 2003 R2
Backup device - HP Storageworks DLT VS80 external
Cartridge - 40/80 GB DLT tape 1V

Problem Description: I am trying to use ntbackup for my server and with new tape or a used tape iam getting error " There is no free media available with the selected type.Add unused media or click Cancel to end the operation. Note: It may take to 60 seconds to recognize media".

Device manager shows driver provider as Quantum Corporation and Driver Details shows files  as QntmX32.sys and LT1f1x32,dll and windows installed this driver automatically. Is this the correct driver. Hp web site not providing any driver for this device could be becuase windiws auto detect ?   Could you help me to solve this issue.

Hi!!

1st --> You can download your driver for HP Storageworks DLT VS80 external from the following link:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=330082&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=330076&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1005

2nd --> After you install the driver, apply windows service pack

3rd --> Restart the machine.

4th --> Most Important.
Before you do anything (even before you insert the tape), go to your server's computer management console window.
Expand storage - removable storage - media.
Insert the tape in the drive.
Wait till you can see the tape in the media pool.
Move the tape to the media pool labelled - Free Media Pool.
Select the tape in the media pool & perform operations like rewind to ensure that you have selected the right tape.

5th --> Next run NTBACKUP & start your backup operation. The media will now be available to you.

Let me know if this helps.

Regards,

Nilesh Roy.
