Outlook 2003 Hangs Intermittently

A user of mine is having problems with Outlook 2003 hanging while she's trying to work.  I have been able to duplicate this myself.  She can be typing and all of the sudden it will just hang, and then a few seconds later all of the text will just pop in.  I have tried making sure Word is off, or on... either way same.  I have done a repair install and I have tried doing a outlook.exe /resetfolders.  No luck.  This seems very similar to the old Office 4.3 issue of not starting the indexer.  Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

If caching mode is on, you may want to turn it off to see f that will resolve your problem.

Just this PC.  Trying to reinstall now, but I was trying to avoid this due to other problems it might cause.

You can perform a repair on Office, go into add remove programs, select office product and modify. Then perform a repair.

Did it already... no luck.  Lets just assume I've done all the remedial stuff.  Is there an ancient Chinese secret out there that someone might know?

Is it possible that Outlook freezes when it attempts to resync with your exchange server?  This would surely indicate a network problem.

dns issues possibly. Have you done office updates yet? SP2 is out.

crawfordits:  It is possible I suppose, but it freezes every 10 seconds or so... almost on a schedule.

marine:  I don't think it's DNS related.  I checked the network settings and we are all configured the same and we are on the same subnet.  I have installed SP2 for office.

I reinstalled Office 2003 totally and I am still getting the freezing.

I have also fully scanned for Spyware with Spybot.

try updating all your drivers.. esp network ones.. sometimes bad network drivers can cause a pc to hang at random times when a particular application is open.

another thought just popped by.. try disabling the auto send/receive feature as this may be causing it.. if so, then its probably a network based issue as mentioned above.

try disabling the AV just to see if its the real-time scanning thats causing it to hang. if it is, reinstall your AV

OH sorry folks.  I fixed it.  Of all things it could be, it turned out that it was a corrupted signature line.  I killed her signatures and the lockups stopped permantently.  Thanks to everyone for trying.

hey planoite,
i am having the same problem with my Outlook 2003 and afaiR i think it started with installing some new updates/patches from Automatic update. My outlook hangs for every 5 seconds but the problems are the same as you described.

and to add, i have no signatures for either of the accounts (imap and pop).

Any suggestion?
