Hi,

I found our daily Veritas backup exec log contains verification error after swapping a new tape drive in replace of the out of order one.

We use Veritas backup exec version 8.6 under Window 2000 server sp4.  After our HP tape drive get out of order, we replace it with a new one of exactly the same, same brand, same model.

But after that, nightmare come.  The backup ended with error.  Though we found that the backup works correctly and can also be restored without any problems, but the verification process after the back do failed which make our operation manager feel extremely uncomfortable.

Our backup job consist of 2 individual tasks.  The entire system backup start at 2:00am everyday with no tape reject after that.  While the second one (using the same tape) started at 3:00am and is backing up of some special critical files after the full backup started in 2:00am.  The second job do reject the tape after backup.  What the 2 backup task do get files from the local server without any network elements involved.  The tape used will be formated by operator everyday at noon manually and all our tape are quite new and should not have any quality problems.

The log do show that the tape drive does not contain a storage media.  But the actual case is the tape do still resided in the tape drive when the verification started.

I here attached the log for your reference and advise.  Thanks.

The log for the job started at 2:00am (full backup)

The message informs the backup operator that the Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) has not been enabled under the Backup Job Properties in VERITAS Backup Exec (tm). If this option is not selected, backup performance may be improved, but there will be no way to verify the integrity of the data on the tape. Backup Exec will only be able to verify that the data can be
