Trying to use Access as front end for FileMaker data
I am trying to use Access (2003) as a front end (on a PC) for data in a FileMaker Server 7 Advanced (OS-X) database. As far as I can tell, then only way to achieve this is by linking to the FM data via ODBC. My problem is layered:
- When I try to link a table from Access, I choose 'ODBC' as the file type, and it provides a list of drivers. How can I get the FM driver?
- I tried enabling ODBC on the server end, but couldn't find the option for the life of me.
- For the Access side, would I have to first define a "Network Place" in Windows for the FM data before having any possibility of pointing to it? If so, is there anything specific I need to know? I'm a bit confused about any kind of URL that might be involved. I know that from within the FileMaker 7 Client, when I connect to the remote files, the Host is fm.myschool.edu, and the Network File Path field is pre-populated with fmnet:/fm.myschool.edu.
Thanks in advance for any help.
