Exchange/SBS2000Server Filter Entries are not filtering e-mails from that domain.....

Good Day Experts,

On Exchange 2000/SBS I have entered the following domains in the properties of Message Delivery\ Filter tab\:

@yahoo.co.jp
@excite.co.jp
@jcom.home.ne.jp
*@yahoo.co.jp
*@excite.co.jp
*@jcom.home.ne.jp

Yet we are still receiving messages that have this listing in the header of the received spam e-mails.  Am I doing this incorrectly or do I not understand something?

Have you sender filtering on the SMTP virtual server?

Although I find that this type of blocking is usually a waste of time.

Hi Sembee,

My experience with Exchange is little, How would I know if I have sender filtering on the SMTP Virtual Server?  We have Symantec Mail Security w/out the anti Spam Service and I have entered sbl-xblspamhaus.org as a RBL service provider.

Also what is the virtual server?  The server name of the exchange server?

SMTP Virtual Server.

ESM, Servers, <your server>, Protocols, SMTP. Right click on the Default SMTP Virtual Server and choose Properties. Click on the button Advanced and then Edit. Enable the option "Apply Sender Filter".

If you aren't using the antispam filter in Symantec's product then you aren't missing much. I haven't heard a good word to be said about it. I am not a lover of RBLs either - I don't like the idea of someone else deciding what email I can and cannot receive.

FYI - I just added my own outside e-mail address to the filter list and it came through.  Is there a way to doulbe check if the filtering capabilites is configured properly or a way to run diagnostics that would return a solution to the problem?
