Exchange MTA not available

Hello experts,

The past weeks I have been busy getting our server (SBS 2003) ready for use. Today I was double checking everything because later this week our ISP will create an MX-record. I want to be absolutely sure that our mail will be handled correctly. I have been testing OWA and Outlook (also with rpc) and this all works fine. Sending mail through our smarthost already works perfectly.

Earlier today I was struggling with mail send by Sharepoint (a notification that an issue was assigned) and that is when I came across the queues of our server. These queues are all 'ready' except the 'Exchange MTA'. When clicking it a message appears: Exchange System Manager failed to retrieve queues for the X400 protocol (error code=0x800706D9). Check the event log and verify that the required services are running.

Can someone tell me if this requires any action? Does it have to run?

Thanks and greetz Tim

By default, the Exchange MTA is disabled on an SBS.

Just leave it alone, and all will be fine.

Nitadmin... just a suggestion... if you're merely going to Google for an answer, you might want to at least not let it show that you searched for "Exchange System Manager failed to retrieve queues for the X400"

Thank you both for your answers! A concern less.
