problem sending mail through outlook when away from my home connection

i problem sending mail through outlook when away from my home wireless connection. either they wont send or they do and i get a message saying relaying is not permitted. some of the wfi connections send mail w/o a problem and some dont. i am using my yahoo account as the default and i use localhost as the smtp outging server. sometimes i chang that to smtp.mail.yahoo.com and sometimes that helps and sometimes it doesnt. is this a firewall problem? i can send mail if i do it directly through my online yahoo mail. i am using outlook 2003. do you have any suggestions. thanks, deek

Greetings, deekmartin !

The problem is a relay issue. To prevent spam, many ISP's have blocked all SMTP servers from sending email.  To get around the problem, use server smtp.mail.yahoo.com and port 587.  Port 587 is a hidden usable port and may get around the blocking of port 25.

Best wishes!
