the font of a field, set in design mode, only applies if the field content contains no font associated with the text in it.
To check this, first remove all text formatting for the given field, or type information by hand in a new record.

for the current record:
TextFormatRemove ( table::field )

to remove it on the whole table, use
replace field contents ( table::field ; TextFormatRemove ( table::field ))
