I have a mac with system 9.1 and using Netscape communicator 4.78.  This mail program has loads of email that I don't want to lose.  I'm trying to purchase a new system and want to move the email from NC 4.78 to the new system in any email program.  I don't see a way to get the mail out of NC 4.78 into anything else that will run on system 9.1 and be able to be ported to a new OSX system.  I realize that this is some very old software and we'll have to dig deep to find something but any thoughts?

When you say, "purchase a new system", do you mean you are buying a new computer with OS X on it, or purchasing OS X to install on your old computer?

Assuming you are buying a new computer, does your old computer have a firewire port?

Purchasing a new system with OSX on it.  The old one does have a firewire port.

When you get your new computer and first start it up, it will ask you to connect the two computers with a firewire cable and will then endeavour to import all your settings, mail, etc. from the old computer. If it is successful, that will solve the problem. If not, one possibility is to connect the two computers using Firewire Target Disk Mode, and use Entourage to import your mail from Netscape:  http://www.entourage.mvps.org/import_export/another.html
