Call a javascript function from the child window that insert the value in the drop-down field:

window.opener.updateDropDown('value');

function updateDropDown(DDLValue,DDLText)
{
 var elOptNew = document.createElement('option');
    elOptNew.text = DDLText;
    elOptNew.value = DDLValue;
   document.getElementById('ddl').add(elOptNew,0);
}
