What is low profile?

Silly question, but what is it, when a network card is low profile, a modem is low profile?

does it mean its a very low in height?

Not a problem,  Oh yeah usually when they refer to low profile they mean they have a bracket which will make it low profile. So most low profile things can fit in both types of machines.
