I have temporarily installed DNS as a secondary on a Windows 2003 server.  The server is a file server and users had no problem connecting and accessing their files through vpn until I installed DNS.  Now they can still connect to the network however they receive access denied permissions when trying to browse folders.

If it says access denied, then start by checking the permissions on the folders.

Check the effective permissions by going to "Advanced" under "security" tab of "properties" of any folder.

Check both share and NTFS permissions.
Check for explicit deny on any user or group.

sorry - I just found out she is only getting accessed denied to the folder she doesn't have permission to view - We get the following error message on the network shares we DO have permission for:

An error occured while reconnecting to R:\\ path
Microsoft Windows Network: the network path was not found
This connection has not been restored.

The syntax for the path is correct

I have also tried to connect from outside the network and I am now receiving the same message.  I did double check the NTFS permissions and they are correct - like I stated the only change was no one can access the server from an outside connection after I installed DNS -
