i thought what i was trying to do was simple but i am having a problem.  I am making flash doc with 8 buttons and each buttons loads another movie clip.  My main canvas is 541x358 and the movies that are loading with the buttons are excactly the same size as the original canvass.  the problem is when is insert the movie clip as rollover or a hit and i preview the movie the button i created and the movie i inserted is a also a button. so since my movie buttons are the same size as my original canvass the whole thing is a rollover or hit, whichever. any solutions. thank you.

the problem is the "hit" area, when you edit that property of a button (by double clicking on it to enter the button's timeline) that becomes the hotspot of the button.  If you need to use the hit area (I usually dont) just make a rectangle (any color as it won't show up at runtime) and place it over the button where you want the user to click.

when you make the hit area the same size as the canvas, your entire canvas becomes the button that is at the highest layer.

for example if your button is 50h x 100w and at position 10x/10y
make your hit area the same (50h x 100w and at position 10x/10y)
