Can you give a little more detail on what went wrong and what state it is currently in?

My assumptions are:
The laptop got stuck @ resuming Windows while trying to resume it one time.
You powered it off, and tried again and got the same result.
Tried pulling the battery in hopes of clearing the memory and got the same result.
Ran spin write..?  Not sure at what point you might have done that or the situation.

You've tried booting to safe mode, what happened?
Have you tried hard powering it off?  (IE: Holding the power button down for 10 seconds when it freezes?)

If you can hit F5 while booting to get the boot menu and select "last known good config" that may help, but my guess is you can't even get to that menu, correct?

It is because it has written all that was in memory to disk, so you'll never be able to just flash clear it...  it's likely to be a piece of hardware that weant into hibernation and isn't waking up properly so your system hangs when it tries to wake it up.

Does your machine POST?  or does it just go straight to Resuming Windows?  IE: Can we get into the BIOS?  I'd recommend disabling ALL extranieous hardware that you can in the BIOS... Wireless PCI Card, USB devices etc...   see if that makes a difference and allows yuour machine to recover...  otherwise we might be talking about a recovery installation of Windows which will wipe your apps but nor your data.

Do you have a hardware diagnostics CD with your laptop?  What kind is it?

It is a HP Pavilion dv2047cl and no it doent have the recovery cd's ... Like a fool I didn't make a copy... Thankfully I just backed it up last night

I'm able to get into the bios, but I don't see any options for disabling wireless or usb equipment
