I have a windows XP box and trying to connect to a cisco 2801 router to configure the router, I am using the flat blue serial console cable to connect from the PC to the console port of the router. When I open hypertrm from the run command on my PC I an getting this error:

Windows has reported a TAPI error (80000048). use the phone and modem options in the             control panel to ensure that a modem is installed properly.

I dont think the connection is working since when I type show version or others command I get no return,

Thanks for any help.

Open Hyperterm and make sure you are connecting using COM1 and not a modem entry
The COM settings - Configure - 9600 - 8 - none - 1 - no flow control
