Inbound Connections Drop

Hi,
I am having a bit of trouble with inbound connections when the server is first started and when it is left idle for a while.

When this trouble occurs the server seems to refuse all incoming connections including ping but outbound will still work. However as soon as I log in to the server and open something such as internet explorer and accesses the internet all of the inbound connections will start working.

I have this on two servers so I imagine it must be quite common but I just can not find anything on google that relates to my problem so I would really appreciate any help.

At the moment I have set the server to run a scheduled task to run a constant ping when the machine starts up so that the network activates and stays online.

Thanks,
Matt.

do you have any security software installed on the servers? firewall packages etc?

ASKER

Only windows firewall but everything is open fine as the machine works perfectly fine if I have a constant ping running.
out of curisoity what happens if you completely disable the windows firewall
Exactly the same. The problem existed before I actually enabled the firewall.
ah fair call then, i don't know what else could do this
Hi,
I have now set the link speed on the switch and server to 100FDX and it seems more stable but still not working correctly as far as I can see. As long as I keep a ping open on the server things seem to stay working fine but at the moment I do not want to stop the ping incase everything drops and does not come back. If I can get the KVM over IP connected then I will try a reboot as I will be able to get things back but for now are there any other ideas any one may have?

Thanks.

Hi,
Power options are off and the NIC's are fine as both machines were runing CentOS before hand without any problems.

Thanks.
Fair enough, i have no idea whats going on there
I never found out what the problem was but I have now coded my own fix which seems to work and keep the server online. Thanks for your help Jay_Jay.
Wish i was of more use, well done though
