Hello everybody,

we develop a java application, but the java wrapper around IE is still pretty buggy so until the jniwrapper guys get it fixed properly we are using a VB6 alternative. I do know VB6 is old and outdated but that is not the point of my question :)

My problem is: Authentication. We launch the VB Browser as an external application giving it the URL as a cmdline parameter along with a username and a password for authentication. Is there a way to prevent this "Type your username and password" box from appearing? i could send along an authentication header, however that causes problems on some pages that dont expect authentication.

quick help is appreciated.

It can be included within the URL itself, e.g.,

http://username:password@www.website.com/page.html

The problem with this method is that is poses a a major security issue. It actually send a CLEAR text user name and password  that can be easily traceable by any sort of web analytics type software and is prone to hacks.

I have been searching for a better solution for this for a while now,, and nothing yet...
