The default printer keeps changing on an xp home machine

On one of our 6 xp home machines in a workgroup, the default printer is constantly changing from the local printer to one of the network printers shared from another pc.  I've seen it happen when clicking on one or the other printer in that machine's printer list - the check mark bounced to another printer.  and also just by coming back to the printer page after 2 - 3 minutes, the check mark will have moved to a different printer.

it has up to date NAV, seems like a clean machine.

thanks!

Did you actually set one of the printers as default on each PC?

it might have the checkmark there, just because it has to be somewhere.

yes, we'll right click on a printer, choose use as default and the check is there.  I was clicking on the printers and the check jumped once in a while to another printer.  and even when not clicking on the printers, come back in a few minutes and it chooses a different (not always the same printer) printer as the default.  I wound up deleting the other printers!  so now it CAN'T choose another one.  a kluge fix, but we'll see if it works!

thats pretty strange. the only thing i can suggest would be remove all the other printers as yuo did, then re-add them again.
