Keep getting "Your WSUS server currently shows no client computers have been set up to receive updates" when setting up clients on W2003 Server

Hello.  I'm having a difficult time setting up clients to pull updates from a 2003 WSUS server.  After following the direc several times, I cannot get my testing machine to show up on the server WSUS site screen.  I'd be grateful for any suggestions.  

Facts:

Server: Windows 2003 Server SP1, Active Directory
Client: Windows XP Pro SP2
GPO policy is set to direct client to the WSUS server

To force an update try this at the command prompt:

wuauclt /updatenow /resetauthorization

The reset of authorization is optional, but can't hurt.

It can take some time (a few hours sometimes) for the client to appear. Also, did you create a new GPO policy for WSUS? If so, make sure that none of your other policies are over-riding it. When I set this up for our servers, I couldn't get any of them to show up. I found the default policy had been changed to disable automatic updates which took precedence over my WSUS GPO.

He had already said: "GPO policy is set to direct client to the WSUS server"

When you type in the server name, both should read "http://[ServerName]" eg. http://lime (which is one i do for a school)

It took several days for all of the PCs in that network to show up.

Correct, I was just trying to ask if he had modified an existing policy like the "default PC" GPO or if he had created a GPO just for WSUS settings. If there are multiple GPO's applied to the container the PC's are in, one of the GPO's could have a setting that gets applied after his WSUS GPO which will cause the PC's not to show up.

Sorry guys - I was off for Thanksgiving break!  The defaut GPO has not been changed to disable automatic updates, as far as I can tell, and I did create a separate WSUS GPO for my test client(my machine), which still hasn't shown up.  Let me try the diagnostic tool and report back.  Standby.

Well - I got it to work.  Instead of using a separate WSUS GPO, I edited the DEFAULT DOMAIN POLICY and that did it.  I guess it's a policy issue, but I'm not worrying about it.  I'm showing 16 computers now, out of 60, which hopefully will all show up by tomorrow.

The diagnostic tool helped the most, so that's where I give the points. But thanks to everyone for your help.

Sorry for the delayed response as I just got back in town from the holiday weekend.

Although you resolved the problem, I'd like to point out that the error "0x240001" could be of a result with re-registering the following driver: (complete the command below from a cmd prompt)

regsvr32 /u wuaueng.dll /s
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll /s

Then restart the  Update service.

Worth a shot, I personally create separate GPO's for each policy for future troubleshooting purposes.
