can someone tell me why my hover doesnt work ?

use
.banner:hover {
     font-family:Impact;
     font-size:32pt;
     color:#c9585a;
}
instead of
.banner a:hover {
     font-family:Impact;
     font-size:32pt;
     color:#c9585a;
}
