i have a 15000 rpm scsi drive and that thing gets hot as all hell, i cant even hold it.
i am wondering if any of you know of the best hdd cooler that doesnt require me to plug the drive directly into the case (hot swappable)
something with an open back would be great

Are you saying this is or is not a hot swap drive? For a mounted drive, you can purchase a slimline fan which attaches over the circuit board, but for removable or mounted drives you can easily attach a spare case fan to the end of the drive compartment with a couple of cable ties. Drives do run hot however, check the specs.
