Animated GIF in PDF

Is it possible to insert an Animated GIF into a PDF and will  Acrobat Reader display the animation ?

I understand a printed version of the pdf page would not animate, and that may be a good reason to avoid animations in pdf.

However a lot of my users read my user manuals using Acrobat Reader.

At the moment I generate my user manuals in MS Publisher and print the pdf using PDF Camp.
I've tried inserting an Animate Gif in my MS Publisher files and the generate the PDF with PDF Camp, it prints only the first frame of the animation.
I'm sure PDF Camp does not handle animated GIF files.

My Question:

If I buy the full version of Acrobat to generate my PDF files will the animation work when viewed in Acrobat Reader ?

Acrobat does not support animated GIFs. You need to convert the animaged GIF to a flash animation, then you can embed the SWF file. This way, your customers will be able to see the animation on the PDF page.

OK sounds like the answer.
How is the animated gif to flash conversion done ?
Is there a program ? Whats the name of it..?

Adobe's ImageReady (which is a part of Photoshop) can convert animated GIFs to SWF files. Other than that, you can probably find a number of cheaper tools when you search for "animated gif convert swf" on Google - I am not familiar with any of these.
