How can I get my content to show up as a Google Alert?

I'm signed up for Google Alerts - awesome service!!  But my Web hosting Clients want to know how to get THEIR Web sites to show up as Alerts, for people who are interested in what they have to offer.  Obviously it's more than just updating a Web page, or there would be billions of Alerts - anyone know ANYTHING about how to show up on Google's radar to be sent out as an Alert?  Thanks in advance!  ~ Scott

i dont think it works like that, Google alerts work of the normal Google search results.

for example if i wanted an alert every time something changed with my company(new pages added about etc) i would enter my company name in the 'enter search' box. because i rank high for my company name most of the alerts would be relevant to me.

Yep, that makes sense - but I'm trying to get on the "other side of the table" - so that I can figure out how to TRIGGER alerts to folks who care about my company or products/services.  Google Alerts help says:

Google Alerts are emails automatically sent to you when there are new Google results for your search terms.

So what constitutes "new Google results"?  Page rank increase?  New site?  That's what I'm trying to figure out...

Thanks!!
Scott
Well from my own experience I have got new alerts when new content was index on my site by Google, if nothing has been indexed for a while it seems to just pick something that relates to the sites that come up for your search term  i.e. type into Google: related:www.yourdomain.com

This is pure speculation just my experience :)
