What else is there to do in AU besides drink, BBQ and chase Roo's around - AND work away on EE ? !  hehe...

I'm out on the East Coast of Canada - and, no, I'm not a Newfie! :o)  However, they sure can drink!

Hey Rob,

Good work and Congratulations :)

Chris
I'm in Charlotte, NC - US.  Being in EE is a challenge - my manager keeps coming by glaring at me "forumnating".  Too busy with kids, wife, etc. at home.
>>What else is there to do in AU besides drink, BBQ and chase Roo's around - AND work away on EE ? !  hehe...

There is one more thing Netman... not being in the lounge, I will leave that to your imagination.  Rest assured though, we do that more than chase roos :))
I have always been impressed that an English speaking, US based forum, attracts so many nationalities.

I too am east coast Canada, a couple of hours east of Netman66, not an Newfie either, but we can hold our own with the drinking, doubt we can match the BBQing, but I see at least a couple of Americans, 2 from the UK, 3 Aussies and others I know, but I don't know where they "hail" from. Great to see. Reminds me of Ham radio days (just dated myself)

pseudocyber, tell your manager you are researching a problem !  I don't have a boss, at least at work, but perhaps that is not a good thing, maybe too much time on EE.
Hey!  Where ya at?  Moncton?  I'm in Fredercton.  We're going to have to get together sometime.  You headed to the Summit?

Good grief - HAM radio?  I feel old too....

Lol, What else is there to do in Aus???

Not much really, we spend most our time spamming Canadians Inbox's when we arent chasing to odd Roo.....As for the beer drinking..I challenge Netman and Robwill to a Duel Vs Kieren and I! first team to lose a member gets Chris of which we all know being the englishman, will probably outdo us all....

Canada Vs Aus  with and English Reserve......this is going to get messy
We may have that chance at the Summit!
lol Kieren and I have to get our MVP's yet and make our way over there! Either that i we do it via video conference...
                       *** Warning *** Alcohol Poisoning Ahead ***

Be warned fellas, I travel with a stomach pump and a catheter - I am a professional drinker!
That upsets me somewhat..... :-) not sure whether to proud or disgusted!
to be fair, it is a "texas catheter"

play a few poker tournaments and experience the joy

</hijack>
Good grief!  I've seen it all now!

Careful not to get too "full" of yourself or we'll kick ya in the "bag"  - LMAO............snort....

Netman66, I'm in Halifax, I was thinking you were in Moncton, then I am little further, but not much.
Which summit are you refering to Redmond in the spring? If so I am am planning on it.
Have you ever tried to explain real football to these Australian folk ?
LOL.... I recall a short conversation on the topic, yes.

Yes, the Summit in March.  I hope I'll be going - renewal is January.  It leaves me a bit tight on booking, but it's do-able.

We'll have to get together sometime - maybe even try to grab the same flight from Toronto to SeaTac.  Is this your first year with the Program?  I don't recall seeing your name in lights before.

Shoot me an email - my alias here at gmail.
>>Careful not to get too "full" of yourself or we'll kick ya in the "bag"

I didn't think about that, just be afraid when I need to "do my shoelaces up"

>>Have you ever tried to explain real football to these Australian folk

I know of 5 forms of football - which are you referring to as "real"? :)

Which reminds me, have you seen the counterpart to the Stadium Pal?

The BEER BELLY! -> http://www.thebeerbelly.com/

Be careful, confusing all the different tubes can be hazardous (and hilarious for onlookers)
@Netman66
>>"renewal is January"
MVP renewal ?  Seems mine was mid year. Do they have 2 inductions or perhaps different times for different categories? Mine is Networking and yes first year. I'll drop you a line.

@Kieran
>>"which are you referring to as "real"? "
Canadian of course.
"thebeerbelly" is of no use to me. Mine is built-in and full.
Perhaps renewal is a poor choice of words - re-award might be better.  There are quarterly awards, mine is January.

Great to have you on board!  There are a few New Zealanders in Networking that I met last Summit, one is here Mike (mkline) and then there's lrmoore - whom I attempted to meet up with last Summit and got tied up in my session and missed him.  Hopefully, this time around we can meet up.

Gridiron is one of the 5 i know - considering that wikipedia considers them "almost" the same, then I "almost" know it :))

While that may offend you, think about the differences between Australians and New Zealanders - from over there, it is probably not much, but from here it is HUGE!

And, did I just hear that lrmoore is from NZ?  SURELY that isn't right
No, he's from the US (I think) - I just added him in the sentence but realized after I submitted that it may be confusing.

phew, for a moment there I thought I was in love with a New Zealander!

In a totally heterosexual masculine way, of course

*grunt*
LOL!

mkline, or similar ?? looks familiar.
I believe PetelLong is also Canadian Networking MVP.  lrmoore is western US is he not?
I didn't realize it was quarterly. I hardly feel worthy among'st (Maritime expression) this "bunch".

I only brought up the football as it gets James worked up. He considers Canadian football as a bunch of fellows in shining armor blowing whistles and throwing flags. Never thought of it that way before, but compared to union ? football, I guess he is right.
Bah, James is a pretty-boy - he has never touched a football in his life.

I think the strategy in American/Canadian football is more interesting than the bloodsport that is union.  Of course, we have a watered down version of union here as well, which makes way for a little bit of strategy.  However, there simply isn't enough money here to really make it the spectacle that is A/C football
PeteLong is in the UK.  Not sure exactly were LRMoore is down there.  I think we have 13 MVPs here.  Actually, mkline was not correct, it's meverest.

PeteLong
LRMoore
SystmProg
Fatal_Exception
stevenlewis
tim_holman
CarlWarner
kidego
Sembee
meverest
Silvers5
you (RobWill)
and Me (Netman66)

Now, I'm not sure how current this list is, but that's what I remember.

Rugby (Aussie rules football) is probably the most brutal form of "football" there is.  Just a ball and a bunch of un-armoured guys - and pretty much anything goes.  Wicked....

I never really got the idea behind wearing armour to play football... Ah well, Aussie football doesn't sound half bad ;)

Chris
Yes Canadian football is pretty safe compared to Rugby. I agree though it is more of a strategy game. That is obvious when the last 3 minutes of a game takes 45 minutes to play. Big $ here in Canada and bigger in the US. You have to take out a mortgage to take you family to a pro game.

Good list to know Netman66. I understand they are supposed to post an updated Canadian list this month on the MVP site. I haven't looked for it. It may be out.

Can't get over how much James likes the snow. Netman66 and I will send him all he wants. Get awful tired of it here sometimes. Though I am only 5 hours driving from Netman66, we probably get less than 1/2 the snow. Much milder on the coast, we get rain when most others get snow, though we are only 4 or 5 degrees warmer.

Chris it's a north american "thing". Survival !
Must say your football games look like quite a party, at least for the spectators. They really get involved.
There is a difference between Rugby and Aussie Rules.

Aussie Rules is the one that is all kicking - it is rough, but for some reason played by blokes in very small shorts.  It is similar to soccer in a way, but played by men...

Rugby League is a watered down version of Rugby Union - rougher than Aussie Rules, and (IMHO) more strategic.  Of course, I have watched more of this than the other 2, so I may be biased (not that I particularly like any of them)

and Rugby Union, quite possibly the most stupid game I have ever seen (again, possibly biased due to the fact that I was an ambulance officer at many many games).  Ironically played here at the posh "rich kid" schools more than anywhere else - this game is little more than group ju-jitsu, with a ball - which is admittedly, still entertaining

Now, how did we get here again? :)

CONGRATS ROB!
I stand corrected!
I did see one Rugby Union game once. Must say it look pretty rough. Interesting all the variations of "football". Even Canadian and American football is different, though not much to the average viewer.

Thanks Kieran

>>"I stand corrected! "  ??
Noticed in the News letter new MVP's to add to your list:
Exchange_Admin
Microtech
sramesh2k
SystmProg (must be re-award)
Whew..  is this the lounge?  Great group here though!  I think LRMoore is down south of me, perhaps Atlanta?  I am in Ohio, and of course, if we are talking American Football, I have to say "Go Bucks"!  (No 1 going into the Fiesta Bowl, against maybe USC?)  I wonder how a team like this would do playing group ju-jitsu?  :)
This is the sports TA, is it not?
Isn't the Buck's that have sold out seats months in advice of every game, and most seats are season tickets held by families for years? or am I confusing it with another team?
You got it right, Rob...  Can't get a ticket, and even during a bad season they go for up to $2,000 US per if you want to watch it live..  during the Michigan game 2 weeks ago, they were parking up to 10 miles away from the stadium and taking the bus..  Needless to say, that is why I have a big screen LCD to watch these with!

Regarding the new MVPs, all four are worthy, and expected!
Now that is team spirt ! There was a show here recemtly just about the Bucks, and the enthusiasm surrounding them, even in bad times. It was great to see.

Must say that list of Mvp's includes some very talented folks.
Bah Bah and Bah! AFL is a mans game....absolute maniacs, not that i have ever played the game in my life.....But the guys are insane...the little shorts are a bit disturbing though...i hear Kieren loves it...just Rumours....

PeteLong is in the UK - spent some time in Germany though if i remember right....i may have been slightly out of it..... :)

Bring on the snow Rob, just wait till i hit Canada next year and yourself and Netman find some wild eyed half mad Aussie on your doorsteps...I have google earth people, You cannot stop me now   Muhaha!

Oh n dont think your getting away with it FE, I'll be coming to play frisbee with you!
Doh!

LOL....Frisbee?  oooookkaaaayyy......the rubber room and nice white jacket are all clean and await your arrival.

*cough*

>>Oh n dont think your getting away with it FE, I'll be coming to play frisbee with you!

Pffft, and you call ME fruity :P
You caught that one, did you? :o)

What a PITA this whole deal was all week.  And ultimately I am the pylon!

You can't imagine how hard it is to work on these boards without the use of working email to get notifs - try it sometime...

Anyway, I'm back in business.

I was watching QP and was subscribed from the start, couldn't resist sharing with the group :)

Yeah, no notifs is a pain, exceptionally so if you are doing cleanup.  My worst has only been like 6 hours though, a few days would have been a killer.

Being able to sort comments posted by the date/time you posted would be far better than the date the question was open, but you get that

-red
lol After that slapping from Netman, I am glad you shared that link **grin** **grin** **grin**

And enough with the frisbee bagging!.....FE plays a crazy frisbee cross golf game, trust me i am not that crazy. 9/10 voices in my head tell me I'm normal...thats a majority vote my friends....
I don't even want to imagine the hardship when you're doing cleanup with no email - that would be some painful.

Jay, I will remove all the buttons from the wall so you can't hurt yourself when you stay - K?

Frisbee Golf - do I bring my clubs?  Now, hitting a little white ball hundreds of yards, over hills and traps, through long and short grass, in rain or shine - just to putt it into a ridiculously tiny hole - that's a man's game.  It doesn't hurt that there's drinking involved!

Lol! ill hold you to that, i want nice padded rooms with old person music playing the background :)

No clubs involved from what i have read, they tried to start a tournament here but couldnt get the support for it......on the other hand, they have started a dodgeball competition up the road...now that is a dumb game....I'm in :)

All sport is better with drinking inclusive of Roo chasing....NM, dont let me forget to tell you my camping stories with beer, kangaroos and footballs :)
Ok...  So has no one ever heard of DiscGolf?  The World Championships were held in Japan this year, and we have thousands of tournaments around the Globe!  And if you have ever thrown one of these discs (not a Frisbee) 400 feet, or hit a hole in one at over 200 feet, you are hooked like a fish forever!

http://www.pdga.com/

and here are my rankings:

http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php

And even better, anyone can play (here I am out with my techie friends, programmers and Network Admins getting it on):

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3845291099775101285&q=blendon+disc

I have heard of DiscGolf. My brother in law has played In Vancouver. Said it was great ! Links #2 doesn't seem to work. Which fella are you FE in 3rd link ?  :-)
I thought regular golf was a challenge in the wind.

I am more into the dog sports. Dog frisbee, or we are/were big in Flyball. Let the dogs do all the work.
Flyball in Ohio:

Ha!  Since this is pulling data from the database, no wonder it won't work!  If you want to see the tourneys I played in this year, put in my PDGA Membership # = 29002 on this page..

http://www.pdga.com/members.php

At the Hambrick Tourney here in Columbus (4 of the top 5 in the World came to play), I had 2 players in my 4-some from Canada..  It is really starting to take off up there..  they tell me they play in the snow, but I wonder how many discs they loose each time they play.  :)

I am the 'old' guy with the hat..  :)  and the bum knee (black brace)..

Not sure about using the dogs, just watching them run that course wore me out!  :)  I can just imagine the expression on my dog's face if I asked her to do this!
Very impressive stats.  Nice to see an IT guy  with a "life" !

I have 3 brothers-in-law who love to play Frisbee, and they have talked about the game a fair bit, but 2 of the 3 are from small towns and there is no local "facility".  The other guy says it's great, but has only played a couple of times. Sure we play in the snow up here. They even play golf once in a while in the snow. You think it would be hard to find the Frisbee, try finding a golf ball in the snow.
Parts of Canada actually don't get that much snow. West coast just had first real snow fall in 10 years which resulted in total chaos. East coast here, can vary from year to year. The keen golfers can play 10 months many years, though you have to be keen. Course is OK but pretty cold.

Nice to see not all the guys here are <20 :-) Looks like we are in the same age group mid 30's ;-)

I see that look on my dogs faces too from time to time, saying " you want me to do what ! You first !'
Can I tag on the end? Congrats Rob in having such a great name.  Also well done on your Epic points total. Awesome.
Thanks Rob !

Robathon! :)    RobJ is an Aussie as well.....that means we make up the majority on this post!
Hoo learned you good English? hehe

How you passed that MS exam I will never know J, especially considering you barely know the difference between A, B, C and D :P
I think they have a different exam down there below the Equator...  *grin*
Yeah, I heard they made ours harder as well - apparently we can handle it :))

Maybe the Aussie tests are more difficult, but if so, one would think you would see some Australian MVP's in that list above  :-)  Touché
--Rob
Everyones a comedian on this post.......:-P I have no idea what you are talking about, the english above is perfect !!! Anyone??

Red, the difference is all in the direction you throw the pen.....where the pen lands is the answer i picked, the alphabet never got an engineer anywhere.....

Bah Rob! bah! bah! bah! I think you need to go have some more quality time with Tom Cruise and MI3!  Toushe again.... :-P
>>Maybe the Aussie tests are more difficult, but if so, one would think you would see some Australian MVP's in that list above  :-)  Touché

2 things, first, if the tests are harder, obviously there would be less qualified pro's (and that would probably include MVPs) and secondly (most importantly) you cannot, I repeat CANNOT, give yourself a Touché, that is for the other party to decide :))

>>Bah Rob! bah! bah! bah! I think you need to go have some more quality time with

Great, now you have added to the misconception that Aussies have a thing for sheep - when in reality that is saved for NZ (while that not seem like much from you international folk, consider it the difference between Canada and USA).

>>Tom Cruise and MI3!  Toushe again.... :-P

You're Engrish ams perfective

Seriously though, can we get this moved to the lounge? :))
Blah Blah blah....All i hear is Blah......funny that, i thought the same thing when we went for beers at the MS thingo.....all that guy says is Blah....:-P

nothing wrong with the english there either...MI3   Mission Impossible 3. Robs wife made him watch it....... so my lad, quiet down before you get slapped :-P
That is awfully big talk for such a scrawny little pretty boy Jay :))

Next time we go for drinks, there will be NO cuddles.

I am sorry it has come to this, but you have really upset me.
