Restoring SBS 2003

I am have taken a backup of our SBS 2003 server using NT Backup. Which I want to restore just the active directory from back to a virtual environment using either vmware server or virtual server 2005 r2.

I have tried this and it doesn't allow me to choose just the active directory from the system state.

1. Has anyone got this to work
2. Is there any better tools out there for backing up the active directory.

Well, on the one hand, it doesn't sound like you were following the proper restore procedure as described in http://sbsurl.com/backup

But, since this would be a restoration to "different hardware", you will most likely run into problems.

However, here's the real problem... this is not the way to migrate a machine to a virtual environment.  Instead, you need to use the Virtual Server Migration Tool Kit:  http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/virtualserver/evaluation/vsmt.mspx
