On several computers at my office, when Outlook Express shuts down a message appears wanting to compact the databases. I maintain my own full backups, have plenty of hard drive space and don't want the DBs compacted.

I was reading somewhere that after a certain number of program cycles, this message appears and can be turned off by reseting a counter in the registry. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

To disable Outlook Express compact (not completely though) in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{long number}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0.

In the right hand pane and find *Compact Check Count* >right click>modify>decimal>and set the value to 0, (zero). This will reset the prompt, and you won't see it again for another 100 closings.

Best wishes!
