Hard Drive not recognized upon booting

I have a Dell Dimension 8250 that when you turn it on I get an error saying there is no hard drive and to run setup.  I go into setup and the hard drive is set to auto detect.  I save changes and exit and the PC starts without any problems.  I'm able to access everything on the PC.  The only problem seems to be when the PC starts.  Any idea what the problem may be?

You probably have to replace the CMOS battery.  It saves the values set in the BIOS so that they don't have to be re-entered, and they are cheap to replace.

Thanks for the info.  I was going down the path of replacing the hard drive and you just saved me a lot of time.
